When should you replace your running shoes?
It's important to make sure that you’re keeping an eye on the upkeep of your running footwear as worn out running shoes can lead to potential injuries further down the track.
There’s no real timeline on the lifespan of running shoes, often it really depends on the wearer, as well as the construction and overall initial quality of the shoe itself. You’ll find some runners will replace their shoes after a certain period of time, and others do the same after they have clocked a specific number of miles under their belt.
Consider the terrain and your running technique
Whether you’re a trail runner, a pavement pounder or you’re just into treadmills – this will all have an affect on the wear and tear of your shoes. It’s well known that a long distance road runner will likely have to replace their sneakers before a treadmill addict does.
We highly recommend that you consider booking an appointment with one of our Fit Technicians for a myfit3d experience instore at The Athlete’s Foot. Here they’ll be able to educate you on your running technique, and whether your running style and choice of terrain might impact how often you need to change up your shoes. If you overpronate you might wear down your shoes a little bit faster than a neutral runner.
Although time and distance is important on the life of your shoes, consider things like sudden muscle soreness of your feet and knees, or whether your shoes are starting to feel uncomfortable. Perhaps the most obvious signs – worn out treads and midsoles might indicate that the built in foam is starting to wear thin.
