REPLACING SHOES... WHAT TO KNOW

Whatever your form of exercise may be, your shoes are the most important piece of equipment you need. Whether it’s supporting you to the finish line of a running race, in a game of soccer or through cross-fit training. All in all, they got you covered.

That’s why it’s important to take into account the key components of whether your shoes need replacing.

Here are some things to look out for:

  • Is the outsole (tread) worn out? This is a pretty good indication that your shoes are done and dusted.
  • In the midsole is where the majority of your main technology lies and this compresses over time. Does it have cracks all over it, how much ‘bounce back’ does it have?
  • Does the upper feel snug or has it stretched and is all sloppy on your foot?
  • You also need to ask yourself how old your shoes are.

Here at The Athlete's Foot, we recommend you check your shoes around the 6-8 month mark. If you have had them for more than 12 months then you should be replacing them, even if they have sat in the cupboard all that time. Unfortunately, shoes have a ‘shelf life’ too.

If you aren’t in the correct footwear for your foot type or if your shoes are old and worn out, you are leaving yourself susceptible to injury.

And the last thing you want is any kind of setback when your motivation level is at a high!

So make sure to follow up on these key components as a preventative. That way, you can do what you want at the time that you want.
