PLAN FOR RACE DAY
What are you doing on race day when it comes to:- Clothing?
- Bag check?
- Nutrition?
- Gear belt?
- Timing device?
Eating on Marathon Race Day
It is important to have a Nutrition race day plan, know what you are going to be eating & drinking before the race, and make sure to trial within your training runs (to make sure your stomach can handle it).
I find the most important training run for this is on the Long Runs (generally over the weekends), trialling different foods, seeing what works and what doesn't to give me the best energy I need.
A great idea is to find out the drink & food offered on course well before the day (usually you can figure this out by the events sponsors), you should be able to buy the electrolyte that will be available on course, this way you can train with the exact nutrition that the event will be handing out.
DON'T TRY ANYTHING NEW ON RACE DAY!
Most Important Tip - Having Fun
What you are about to do is an AMAZING achievement, enjoy the journey, have FUN on the day, trust you will make it, think of the end goal & take in all that happens, nothing better than a great story to tell people & you really know what happened.
