Find the best fit
Goes with out saying that you need to make sure those school shoes fit perfectly, your kids will be glued to them more than any other pairs of their footwear so an excellent fit is essential. If you don’t feel comfortable with self-measuring their feet in advance of the new school year, then we thoroughly recommend that you book in an instore fitting session with our fit technicians. They will be able to provide a solution that not only fits well but ensures comfortability for the school year ahead. Our appointments get booked up really fast, especially closer to that first day of school, so we would recommend booking in advance.

Look for shoes with leading technology
We’ve covered some recommendations on school shoe technology before, however, it’s worth considering the following:
- TPU/PU inserts
- Eva Outsoles
- Slip Resistance
- Antibacterial Interiors
You’ll find our range of Alpha Footwear – exclusive to The Athlete’s Foot come topped to the brim with leading footwear technology and more.
Factor costs into your budget
With the rising cost of living it’s more important than ever to make sure that the price and upkeep of school shoes is part of your back to school budget. Don’t forget to factor in things like shoe care and school socks too.

Heading into store without any prior research can often be super overwhelming, especially if you’re caught up on grabbing everything at the last minute. We thoroughly advise that you have a good browse of all our school shoe brands so that you’re fully knowledgeable on everything you need, whether you’re looking for shoes for PE and need something like our Asics range or you’re on the hunt for formal school shoes and need something like Alpha or Clarks .
The fastening that suits your kids’ needs
If the little one is still too little to manoeuvre the world of tying shoelaces, we have heaps of alternative footwear fastening options including mary jane, or self-fastening/v-strap. We love the self -fastening Ava by Alpha, which is also in a Mary Jane style.
SHOP CLARKS
Adhere to school uniform policies
Be sure to be fully informed of your kid’s school uniform policies before you invest in a pair of shoes. Perhaps their school requires brown sandals or black shoes. It’s definitely worth making sure that you are across what’s required in advance.
